ZACHRY MIDDLE SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION SYLLABUS 2018-2019
Objectives
**STUDENTS WHO DO NOT BRING CLOTHES WILL BE REQUIRED TO BORROW A SCHOOL ISSUED UNIFORM, IF AVAILABLE, FOR THE PERIOD. REFUSAL TO WEAR A BORROWED UNIFORM MAY RESULT IN ADMINISTRATIVE INTERVENTION AND PARENT CONTACT**
Grading Policy
Objectives
- Motivate students to develop a lifelong interest in recreational activities and sports.
- Promote acceptable standards of social attitudes, good sportsmanship and behavior.
- Help students to achieve and maintain a higher level of physical efficiency and fitness
- Be on time to class. On time means in the locker room by the tardy bell and SITTING in your fitness spot within three minutes of the tardy bell.
- Be prepared for class. Dress out daily in proper PE uniforms. (GRAY SHIRT & BLACK SHORTS)
- Fully participate in EVERY daily activity.
- Be considerate and respectful of the coaches, school property, and other students.
- Students WILL dress out every day. (SCHOOL PE UNIFORM)
- Tennis shoes are required (Please make sure shoes are tied BEFORE exercise begins)
- Jewelry should be secured in YOUR locker during the pe period. Coaches WILL NOT hold on to jewelry for students.
- Gyms are climate controlled. There will be NO jackets/hoodies worn inside the gym. NO EXECPTIONS!
- During cold weather months, students may be permitted to wear school colored hoodies/sweats. (Coaches discretion)

Grading Policy
- 50% = Performance (Preparation, on time, FULL participation)
- 25% = Assessments: Google Classroom/written
- 25% = Skills assesment
- Students are responsible for checking their google classroom weekly. Reminders, assignments, and test will be posted on google classroom.
- Students may follow our P.E. twitter @ZachryPE and individual coaches twitter account for updates and campus news
- A note from a parent/guardian is required to excuse a student due to injury or illness. It will be accepted for a maximum of three consecutive days. An alternate assignment will be given to receive credit.
- To be excused longer than three days, a doctor’s note is required with physician’s restrictions.
- Students are still required to dress out for class when a note is brought in.
- No food, drink, gum/candy are allowed in the gym or the locker room.
- No glass containers or aerosol sprays are allowed; they will be confiscated.
- Cell phones are ABSOLUTELY NOT PERMITTED in the gym or locker room. Visible cell phones will be confiscated and taken to the front office. (Zero Tolerance!)
- Mischievous behavior and horseplay are not permitted in the gym or locker room.
- Students are encouraged to bring personal hygiene products. Baby wipes, deodorant sticks, body spray. (No glass containers/aerosol cans allowed)
- No flat irons/curling irons allowed.
- Students should wash and return their PE uniforms as needed.
- Please be sure to dispose of trash properly to keep the locker room clean and safe.
This year, all 8th grade students will participate in Choosing The Best Path, unless parents send a note to opt out.
